Square Enix are currently running a ‘May Machina’ promotion, but are they offering the best deals?

If you hop over to the Square Enix EMEA store, you’ll be greeted with a big banner offering 10% off pre-orders of upcoming augmented blockbuster Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. We still don’t know its release date yet – although we’re hopeful for some news on that front in Square Enix’s re-scheduled E3 briefing – but if you want to score a pre-order saving, then 10% in Square Enix’s own store seems like a good deal. Or does it…

Here’s the breakdown on pricing from the publisher’s own store:

Buy Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on PS4 from Square Enix

RRP: £54.99
Price: £49.49
Saving: 10% (£5.50)

Buy Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on Xbox One from Square Enix

RRP: £54.99
Price: £49.49
Saving: 10% (£5.50)

Buy Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on PC from Square Enix

RRP: £39.99
Price: £35.99
Saving: 10% (£4.00)

10% across the board sounds like a handy saving, and there’s free shipping to boot which never hurts. One of the great things about the Deus Ex series though, is the ability to approach the game in a multitude of ways.

Sure, people like to laud the great Batman: Arkham Asylum for the fact you could complete the whole title without actually killing anyone, but hipster Deus Ex was doing the stealth alternatives and non-lethal take-downs thing before it was cool. You can actually play through the entire first game (that’s the proper first Deus Ex, not 2010’s Human Revolution series reboot) with a tranquiliser-dart-firing crossbow, so you can still enjoy the first-person-shooter experience, but with none of the blood on your hands. That’s pretty awesome.

So in the spirit of finding another way, we checked out the prices of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided pre-orders on Amazon, to see what the difference was. You probably won’t be surprised to learn that the book-punting behemoth is cheaper:

Buy Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on PS4 from Amazon

RRP: £54.99
Price: £44.86
Saving: 18.5% (£10.13)

Buy Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on Xbox One from Amazon

RRP: £54.99
Price: £44.86
Saving: 18.5% (£10.13)

Buy Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on PC from Amazon

RRP: £39.99
Price: £35.00
Saving: 12.5% (£4.99)

So we expected Amazon would be cheaper, but to save almost double in some cases? That’s a pretty significant saving; plus Amazon also offer free shipping, and are generally excellent for timing the shipping of pre-order games so they land on your doormat on release day.

Sorry, SqEnix, but your ‘May Machina’ savings are looking like a bit of a damp squib by comparison!
