The first ever GDC Main Stage presentation will feature a talk from Hello Games’ Sean Murray, Media Molecule’s Siobhan Reddy, and game designer Laralyn McWilliams.
Organisers of this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) have announced the lineup for the inaugural Main Stage presentation. The multi-speaker talk will open the first day of the main GDC Conference, a slot previously used for the event’s Keynotes and Flash Forward talks.
Titled The Developer’s Journey, the presentation will focus on “finding inspiration over the course of a game’s development cycle, from its earliest conception through its development, to dealing with the fallout from the release and the post-release content.”
The Developer’s Journey will open with a performance of music generated by Media Molecule’s upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, Dreams, with the studio’s co-founder, Siobhan Reddy, speaking about how the game will unlock players’ creativity.
The second segment will feature Hello Games’ Sean Murray, who will explore how No Man’s Sky built a record player base following its controversial launch. His talk will look at how the studio found focus in the face of negativity from a vocal gaming community, and how No Man’s Sky was improved, winning over some of its most ardent critics.
In the last segment, veteran game designer Laralyn McWilliams will look at the tools and techniques that can be used to find inspiration and motivation during game development.
Katie Stern, general manager of the Game Developers Conference, says:
“The first GDC took place at Chris Crawford’s home with a small group of game developers exchanging their best advice on how to make games better. We wanted to reflect that same spirit of connection and community that’s at the heart of GDC by making the Main Stage a place for all attendees to learn together. Development can be as rewarding as it is challenging, and one of our goals is to inspire the community to find better ways forward. We’re honored to have Siobhan, Sean and Laralyn to light the way.”
The GDC Main Stage presentation will be open to all Conference and Expo+ pass holders, and will be streamed via the official GDC Twitch channel at 12:30pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
