Nintendo has confirmed the release date for Super Mario Run, the first ever mobile game to star the iconic Italian plumber.
Super Mario Run – which was revealed on stage at Apple’s September press conference – will go on sale from the App Store on 15 December. The game is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices running iOS 8.0 or later. Nintendo have confirmed that the game will also come to Android devices in the new year but a release date has yet to be confirmed.
There has been much speculation around the game’s price and payment model – and it’s interesting. The app can be downloaded at no cost and will include a certain amount of content from the game’s three modes for free. A one-time payment will then unlock unlimited access to each of the modes.
How much will Super Mario Run cost?
- EU: €9.99
- UK: £7.99
- NA: $9.99
It price seems steep at first glance but perhaps Nintendo is hoping the fixed cost model will appeal to parents long-used to their kids running up huge bills from micro-transactions.
Super Mario Run will launch in 151 countries and supports English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian and traditional Chinese language options.
You can pre-register for the game over at the official Super Mario Run website.
