Sega has announced details of the Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania 20th Anniversary Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition.

One of my personal highlights from last week’s E3 Nintendo Direct was confirmation that Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania will roll onto Switch (and Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox) on October 5, 2021.

The game brings together stages from the first two GameCube games, plus the 2005 PS2/Xbox compilation Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. Unless something goes horribly wrong, Banana Mania will be a value-packed compilation of top-tier arcade action.

Sega has now detailed the game’s 20th Anniversary Edition physical release, plus the DLC extras that are included with the Digital Deluxe Edition.

The 20th Anniversary Edition features reversible cover art, a collectable sleeve, and a 40-page art book. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with four days early access and four DLC packs, which can also be purchased separately.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania DLC

  • Classic Character Pack – Unlocks classic versions of AiAi, MeeMee, Baby, GonGon, YanYan, and Doctor.
  • SEGA Legends Pack – Play as a Game Gear, Dreamcast, and Saturn.
  • Customisation Pack – Cosmetic items for dressing up AiAi, MeeMee, Baby, GonGon, YanYan, and Doctor.
  • Classic Soundtrack – Unlocks the ability to switch to classic Super Monkey Ball tracks.

Although the decision to charge for some of these items is bothersome – especially the soundtrack – it’s somewhat compensated by the game’s low list price.

We have a favour to ask

Thumbsticks has a couple of main aims. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
