Mars unpacks.

Surviving Mars, Haemimont Games’ Red Planet colony-builder, is free right now on the Epic Games Store. The strategy game is from the developers of Tropico 5. It tasks players with successfully exploiting Mars for everything it’s worth in service of some pretty dumb colonists.

The game debuted to positive reviews in March of 2018. GameSpot’s Daniel Starkey called Surviving MarsSimCity with soul.” At IGN, T.J. Hafer also praised the game despite criticizing its opening hours.

“If you can stick it out through an unforgiving and poorly explained learning phase, there’s a lot of excitement, challenge, and customization to enjoy beneath and beyond the grand, glass habitation domes of Surviving Mars,” Hafer wrote.

Now that this one’s up for grabs, Epic has revealed next week’s pair of freebies. Bloober Team’s best game, the cyberpunk horror game, Observer, and Remedy’s standalone expansion, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare will both be free next Thursday.
