Erm, cowabunga! April O’Neil will be a playable fighter in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.

Publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games have confirmed that news reporter and Ninja Turtle ally April O’Neil will be a playable character in the upcoming action game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.

You can see April in action for the first time – demonstrating her signature slide kick move – in the game’s new trailer. The trailer also debuts a stunning new track from composer Tee Lopes.

Shredder’s Revenge is a retro-style arcade action game developed by the aptly named Tribute Games. It’s published by Dotemu, a company making a name for itself by releasing top-notch remakes and sequels inspired by classic titles. If Shredder’s Revenge lives up to the likes of Streets of Rage 4 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, players are in for a treat.

To quote the press blurb, Shredder’s Revenge is “a bodacious celebration of classic TMNT beat-em-ups with its own modern touches.”

The game was already looking fantastic, and the addition of April O’Neil as a playable character is bodacious news.

There’s a while to go before the Turtles make their comeback, however. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is now planned for release on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC sometime in 2022.
