The Chant, the creepy horror set on a spiritual retreat, looks like it will no longer come to PS4 and Xbox One.
Hot on the heels of WB Games cancelling the last-gen versions of Arkham Knights, Brass Token has today announced that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of The Chant have been cancelled.
Well, they sort of announced it. It’s more what they didn’t say that matters here.
Where previously The Chant was slated for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the latest press release – accompanying the above PS5-focused teaser trailer – said:
“The Chant is slated for release later this year on PlayStation® 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.”
Which seems pretty clear-cut, doesn’t it? If you cancel a version, even by omission, then it’s basically over.
However, when asked about it by the Gematsu Twitter account, the official The Chant Twitter account replied that Brass Token is “focusing development on Gen 9 and PC to make sure they meet the highest quality standards,” which sounds rather like the Arkham Knights announcement, before adding that “news regarding Gen 8 versions will follow in the near future.”
At this stage we are focusing development on Gen 9 and PC to make sure they meet the highest quality standards. News regarding Gen 8 versions will follow in the near future.
