Twitch and indie publisher, Versus Evil, launch new Banner Saga 3 funding promotion.
Twitch is giving Prime members the opportunity to download and play both games in the The Banner Saga franchise for free, for a limited time. The first game in the RPG series, The Banner Saga, is available to download from today until February 28, and Banner Saga 2 will be available between March 2-6, 2017.
Even more interesting is the news that Twitch has promised to donate $1 – up to a maximum of $200,000 – towards the development of Banner Saga 3 for every player who downloads and plays either game through the Twitch Launcher. It’s a fascinating new approach to crowdfunding that seems to have benefits for Stoic, the game’s developer – who will raise awareness and interest in the series – and Twitch itself.
Steve Escalante, general manager of Versus Evil, said:
“Working with the Twitch Prime team has been amazing. They are clearly fans of the Banner Saga, which has helped us craft a great value for fans. Their commitment to the Twitch community and their commitment to support indie development with this offer is extremely generous.”
Twitch Prime members who take part in the promotion will also get receive exclusive content for Banner Saga 3 when it is released in 2018. The game is currently in development and is also being supported by a Kickstarter campaign which has raised over $300,000 of its $200,000 goal with over a week to spare.
If you want to take part you can find out more at Twitch Prime.
We hate to ask, but...
Thumbsticks has a couple of goals. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough to meet those goals! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
