Kirby and the Forgotten Land is an impressive game on many levels. In our review of the Nintendo Switch exclusive, we praised its beautiful visuals and enjoyable platforming.
The attention to detail from developer Hal Laboratory is evident right from the beginning. No more so than in the brilliant song that introduces and concludes game. The words to the song are subtitled using the game’s fictional language and regional Earth languages.
In a recent interview, developers Shinya Kumazaki and Kei Ninomiya revealed that every word in Kirby’s fictional lexicon can be translated.
“We did create a new written language for our forgotten civilisation, but we made sure each message could be deciphered if the player studies them closely. This is just an extra bit of “flavour” in the game’s world, but it also allows players who want to learn more the chance to immerse themselves in the adventure. I feel this is where the creators’ efforts really pay off.”
The song – titled Welcome to the New World! – is a cute and memorable introduction to a great game. Here are the English lyrics in full.
