Microsoft has announced the four games coming to Xbox Games with Gold in August 2020.

Xbox Games with Gold is having a bit of a run on retro Volition games at the moment. Following on from Saints Row 2 in July, now you can grab 2002’s Red Faction II for free with Xbox Games with Gold in August 2020, playable on Xbox 360 and Xbox One (via backwards compatibility).

That’s not the headline item on Games with Gold this month, though. Portal Knights is the quote-unquote “biggest” game on the list. It’s a knockabout sandbox action RPG that you’ll no doubt have a lot of fun with. Speaking of fun, Override: Mech City Brawl affords you the opportunity to level cities while battling in giant robots. It’s like Pacific Rim without the Kaiju. Or Idris Elba. It’s mostly the robots.

On the older end of the scale, you’ll find the aforementioned Red Faction II. It’s got a fairly short campaign that players grumbled about at the time, but we look at that sort of thing as a blessing these days. Meanwhile, there’s a bunch of multiplayer content which went down well at release. The other older game on offer is MX Unleashed, a freestyle motocross game that – honestly? – we can’t entirely remember playing. Sorry.

It’s another middling batch of games, but they’re free with your Games with Gold subscription, so you can’t argue with the price.

The latest batch of Xbox Games with Gold titles will be available to download and keep from the following dates.

Xbox Games With Gold – August 2020

Xbox One

  • Portal Knights – August 1 to 31
  • Override: Mech City Brawl – August 16 to September 15

Xbox 360 and Xbox One

  • MX Unleashed – July 1 to 15
  • Red Faction II -July 16 to 31

As for last month’s offering, WRC 8 and Juju are still available to play for free until the end of the month, while Dunk Lords will be available until August 15, when Override: Mech City Brawl takes over.
