It’s less ‘medium’ and more of a small delay

Independent games developer Bloober Team, the studio behind the Layers of Fear games, Blair Witch, and Observer (the best of the bunch in my opinion), have delayed their Xbox Series X/S exclusive The Medium until January 28, 2021. It was originally set to release on December 10.

This has been the year of delays in games and beyond due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic forcing teams into remote working setups and otherwise disrupting all of our lives in a major way. I’m having fun collecting together all these delay announcements at this point. Have one more for good measure.

As well as citing the “Covid-19 situation in Poland” as a factor in their decision, Bloober Team also mention that they want to avoid clashing with “other games in the market.” Could that be a certain Cyberpunk 2077 which was pushed back into December only recently?

It’s only a short delay and it sounds like they’re going to put the extra time to good use adding more polish. There’s nothing more horrific than bugs in a horror game.

The Medium is shaping up to be Bloober Team’s most original outing yet. Whilst occupying two worlds sounds suspiciously like their previous games’, never before have we had two worlds displayed at once on one screen. It sounds like they’re moving further and further away from jump scare tactics, which is very good news indeed.

The game will also release on Xbox – including Game Pass – and Steam.
