“Fancy an Xbox Series X hand-delivered by boxing legend Chris Eubank?”
Look, I know writing about video games isn’t always highbrow and is rarely important in the grand scheme of things, but when did anyone at the New Yorker ever get to write a headline like that?
Yes, Chris Eubank – former middleweight and super-middleweight champion of the world, one of the greatest living boxers, and glorious eccentric – might well be hand-delivering an Xbox Series X console to your house on launch day. It might sound mad, like a hoax, but according to this video on the official Argos YouTube channel, it’s very much the real deal.
There are three Xbox Series X consoles to be won. Eubank himself will deliver one to the competition winner, while two runners up will have theirs delivered by “his team of ex-boxers”, whoever they may be. They will be coming at one minute past midnight on launch day, November 10, so make sure your pyjamas are clean – Eubank will, no doubt, be impeccably turned out. He always is.
All you have to do is enter the competition on the Argos website and you’re in with a chance of both a sold-out console and a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with a boxing legend. Entries close on November 4, 2020.
It’ll have to be a socially-distanced delivery, though, with the UK back on lockdown a week before the Xbox Series X launches. So while it will be cool to “meet” Chris Eubank, you won’t be able to shake his hand or pose for a sparring photo with him, sadly.
You should follow Thumbsticks on Facebook and Twitter. (Though we can’t promise it’ll be anything as weird as this again.)
