Dark Light

The recent lull of big releases comes to an end with a varied range of new video games heading to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

The biggest hitter is MLB The Show 21, which is the first game in the series not to be a PlayStation exclusive, despite being made by Sony’s San Diego studio. Given the enduring popularity of the sport, the move to reach a wider audience makes sense. However, the game’s day and date arrival on Xbox Game Pass – at the behest of Major League Baseball, apparently – must sting for Sony.

Other Xbox release highlights include two sequels. Super Meat Boy Forever is bloody marvellous (or should that be bloody and marvellous?) and mixes up the classic platforming formula with unique level layouts for every playthrough. The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark is the follow-up to Spooky Doorway’s much-loved 2018 puzzle adventure game.

I can also recommend The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa. Yeo’s tale of delinquency in suburban Japan is an off-beat blend of simple combat and melancholic story-telling. It’s a small scale treasure.

We’ll update this page throughout the week if we get news of any last-minute additions.
