The latest Xbox Free Play Days lineup includes one of our favourite games of 2017.

The Xbox didn’t get many of 2017’s best games – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Horizon: Zero Dawn, etc – for obvious reasons.

Nonetheless, it did get some cracking third-party titles. Resident Evil 7 was a hoot, as were Cuphead and Destiny 2, for example. However, our absolute favourite has to be Image&Form’s SteamWorld Dig 2.

Don’t scoff. This marvellous exploratory platform game is one of the finest examples of the genre around. It’s an exquisitely designed game with charming characters, sublime visuals and fluid movement. We’d say it’s a minor classic and absolutely worth playing. And here’s your chance.

StreamWorld Dig 2 – along with MotoGP 21 and Kingdom New Lands – is currently free to play for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members until Sunday, November 14, 2021.

All progress and achievements earned during the free play period will transfer to purchased copies of each game. And all three titles are currently on reduced on the Xbox digital games store.
