Apple and Google reveal what they consider to be the best mobile video games of 2019, showing surprisingly different tastes.
It’s the time of the year for best-of lists, top tens, and GOTY debates. The tastemakers over at Google and Apple have kicked things off with what they consider to be the best video games on iOS, Mac, and Android in 2019.
The format for each list is slightly different, as are the games that make the cut. Google honours blockbuster FPS Call of Duty: Mobile in three categories, including Best Game of 2019. The Best Indie Game shortlist includes fan favourites like Stardew Valley and the wonderfully offbeat adventure game, Chuchel.
Nintendo’s Mario Kart Tour gets a nod in Best Casual Game, and Assassin’s Creed Rebellion: Adventure RPG and The Elder Scrolls: Blades see two big-name franchises get nods for Innovation.
Apple’s choices are slightly more leftfield and remarkably close to our tastes. Thatgamecompany’s Sky: Children of the Light wins iPhone Game of the Year, and there are nods for Gris, Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap and Sayonara Wild Hearts, all games we love.
