No, not the remaster of Burnout Paradise – don’t panic!

Burnout Paradise, the classic racing game from Criterion Games, has had a good run. First released in 2008 to glowing reviews, the game has been a fan favourite – both in the series, and the genre in general – ever since.

Burnout Paradise is so beloved that it received a remaster for PC and current-gen consoles last year. But not Nintendo Switch, for some reason.

As with all good things, though, they must one day come to an end. For Burnout Paradise – the 2008 original, at least, not the remaster – that end is coming this summer. August 1st, 2019, to be more specific.

On that date, online servers for the original Burnout Paradise will go offline. You’ll no longer be able to play the original online. It’s yet another case in the ongoing battle that is digital preservation of online video games. It’s a thorny issue that we’re not expecting to see a solution to any time soon.

Still, at least we’ve got the Burnout Paradise remaster.
