Dark Light

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights will be coming to PlayStation 4 – and PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility – next week.

Here’s a shout out to a fantasy Metroidvania we’ve recently been enjoying on Nintendo Switch that now has a confirmed PlayStation release date.

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights distinguishes itself from other exploratory platforms we’ve played with its distinct hand-drawn art style that reflects a Japanese dark-fantasy aesthetic.

However, as my gran will tell you, good looks will only get you so far. Thankfully Ender Lilies also cuts the mustard in terms of level design. It’s not quite up to Super Metroid or Hollow Knight standards, but it has a similarly tangible sense of place and dread and a precise, satisfying combat system.

Speaking about the game, Hiroyuki Kobayashi, CEO of publisher Binary Haze Interactive says:

“Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights carries on the rich legacy of dark fantasy. Lily’s journey through the fallen kingdom of Land’s End captures the essence of the genre while expanding on it with a detailed world full of memorable characters, stories, and surprises.”

Take a look at the Switch version trailer.

The game is already available on Nintendo Switch, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. It will be released on PlayStation 4 on July 20, 2021.
