Some good games from the people behind some great games are this week’s Epic Games Store picks.
The End is Nigh and Abzu are free right now on the Epic Games Store.
The End is Nigh is a masocore adventure platformer from Tyler Glaiel and Edmund McMillen, co-creator of Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac. It received good, but not great, reviews at the time, and was largely overlooked during a packed 2017.
Abzu, meanwhile, is decidedly more chill. Developed by Giant Squid, Abzu’s credits boast Matt Nava and Austin Wintory, the art director and composer for Journey, respectively. If you played that game, you know basically what to expect from Abzu. Go to The End is Nigh to die a lot in a bleak world. Come to Abzu to swim across a gorgeously rendered seafloor.
Now that this week’s games are available, Epic has revealed next week’s freebie. The pretty mediocre Lovecraftian horror game, Conarium, will be up for grabs on Sept. 12.
