Square Enix and Nintendo have released a spectacular launch trailer for the remake of Live A Live.

The classic Square RPG Live A Live finally comes to the West this week in a gorgeous remake for the Nintendo Switch. The 1994 game was originally released in Japan for Super Famicom but goes global in a ground-up remake that uses the HD-2D graphical style previously seen in Triangle Strategy and Octopath Traveler.

The game features multiple tales set in different time periods, ranging from feudal Japan and the Wild West to the modern day and far future. Its turn-based combat systems also change for each era, including one story with no combat at all.

Live A Live is produced by the game’s original director, Takashi Tokita, and also includes a sumptuously remastered score produced under the supervision of Yoko Shimomura.

Watch the game’s “A classic comes alive!” trailer for a glimpse of how it all comes together.

Live A Live is released for the Nintendo Switch on July 22, 2022. A free demo featuring three chapters from the game is available now from the Nintendo eShop.
