The combined might of the Avengers, Tony Hawk, and the NBA finally knock Tom Nook and friends from the top of the UK game chart.
Marvel’s Avengers takes No.1 in the latest chart of UK physical software sales. Its performance should be pleasing for publisher Square-Enix following a mixed response to the game, both in the run-up to launch and in early reviews. The game has sold considerably less than 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, but its live-game nature and multiplayer focus could mean a higher proportion of its sales are digital.
Landing perfectly at No.2 is the rather fine remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 from Activision and Vicarious Visions. If the sight of a middle-aged Tony Hawk makes you nostalgic for the late 1990s, visit Thumbsticks later this week for a very special feature.
The third new entry is NBA 2K21, which enters the chart at No.3. It’s a solid performance for a reliably solid sporting franchise. As a result, Animal Crossing: New Horizon slips out of the top three for the first time in six weeks.
Elsewhere in the top ten, you’ll find the familiar sights of Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, Grand Theft Auto V, and FIFA 20.
