The trio of companies behind Streets of Rage 4 – Dotemu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games – have released a massive update for the popular beat ‘em up.
Despite the evident talent involved in Streets of Rage 4, it’s fair to say that expectations were not exactly high for the long-awaited sequel. But, the critical response was positive, and players have connected with the new hand-drawn art style and appreciate the carefully considered nods to the past. Thankfully, the game is not a pure nostalgia play, and it’s all the better for it.
It’s clear that Streets of Rage 4 is a labour of love for Dotemu and co, and a new patch that includes more than 80 individual updates proves the point.
The new patch includes a torrent of balance changes and bug fixes, all of which have been tested by the game’s fan community. Highlights include buffs for Axel and Cherry, slower shield regeneration for Elite Cops, and ten frames of stun after vault jumps.
Speaking about update, executive producer Cyrille Imbert says:
“We couldn’t be happier with the reception of Streets of Rage 4. We thank the fans who have supported the game from day one – a lot of the updates in the patch enhance the replay value for folks who have been with us from the start. Additional updates are currently in production and we’ll have more to share on that soon.”

According to the publisher, the game has so far been downloaded 1.5 million times. I think we’ll make that 1.5 million and one.
Streets of Rage 4 is available now on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
