Microsoft releases new Xbox controller (in a distinctly Nintendo colour)

Microsoft has released a new Pulse Red Xbox Wireless Controller variant. It’s, erm, interesting.

Microsoft has released a new Xbox Wireless Controller variant. It’s red, white and, erm, interesting.

The latest iteration of the Xbox controller was released last year to coincide with the arrival of the Series X|S. It’s a subtle upgrade that includes a 3.5mm stereo headset jack, a USB-C port, a share button, and a reworked D-pad. It’s a lovely game controller, despite not featuring the advanced haptics found in Sony’s DualSense.

Three colour variants – Carbon Black, Robot White, and Shock Blue – were released in November that are also pretty cool. They are now joined by the vibrant Pulse Red edition.

The controller exudes EMERGENCY! with a bright red upper section and pure white base. The triggers, D-pad, and face-buttons are in black, and small colour indicators highlight the A, B, X and Y inputs. It’s striking, that’s for sure.

Colour scheme aside, it’s a standard Xbox wireless controller compatible with the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, PCs, and mobile devices.

The new Pulse Red controller is now available in most regions and can be purchased directly from Microsoft. In the US it’s priced at $64.99.
