The return of the Metroid series headlines this week’s lineup of new Nintendo Switch eShop releases.
It won’t come as a surprise to discover that Metroid Dread is our pick of this week’s new Nintendo Switch releases.
Developer Mercury Steam proved with Metroid: Samus Returns that it can capably handle action and movement. We’re now excited to see what the studio can achieve in terms of structure, level design, and mood when freed from the rigid template of a Game Boy remake.
Nintendo is pushing Metroid Dread as the game to play on the new Nintendo Switch OLED model, which is also out this week. However, the long-awaited release of Tetris Effect: Connected is the game that will really give the new seven-inch OLED screen a chance to shine.
Also rolling on to Switch is Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, a welcome remake and repackage of the franchise’s best games. It features 300 levels, a cast of new playable characters, some dubious DLC, and a selection of multiplayer favourites.
Other new Nintendo Switch releases include the brilliant beat ’em up party game Gang Beasts [now delayed into next week] and the licensed Smash wannabe Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.
