This week’s lineup of new PlayStation 4 releases includes FIFA 21, Ride 4, and The Survivalists.
About three years ago, I went to a video game expo in Birmingham. It was a packed event, and the show floor featured some of the season’s biggest games. As is typical at these shows, most attendees trudged around with glum looks of resignation as they searched for a new game to excite them. I recall that Sonic Forces, in particular, wasn’t doing it for anyone. The happiest person I saw was a tower of a man who strolled into the EA booth. He stood tall, cracked his massive knuckles, and exclaimed: “It’s FIFA time!”
And that’s the magic of FIFA. The franchise is easy to moan about, with its two-steps-forward, one-step-backwards approach to gameplay improvements – and a grotty reliance on FUT microtransactions – but it genuinely excites players. The series captures the essence of football, faults and all, and this year’s entry looks no different. Back of the box additions include a slew of new Career Mode features, plus enhanced dribbling and off-the-ball positioning.
Also coming to PlayStation 4 is The Survivalists, the new Escapists spin-off from Team17. It looks like being a humorous and accessible take on the popular survival genre. Other new PS4 releases include Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix and motorbike racing game, Ride 4.
Here’s the full lineup of titles confirmed so far. Check back throughout the week for updates on any late additions.
