Overwatch 2 headlines this week’s lineup of new video games for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
We’re not really feeling the buzz for Overwatch 2, the new free-to-play evolution of Blizzard’s influential hero shooter, but there’s no denying its status as this week’s big new video game release. Previews suggest the game is another fast and frantic team-based shooter that feels great to play. Some changes – such as the move to five players in a team – are welcome, but the move to a battle-pass system adds a considerable amount of grind. It will be fun to see how the game shakes out over the coming months. Overwatch 2 is available on all console platforms, even the Nintendo Switch.
Speaking of which, the humble Switch gets two more impossible ports this week. NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition sees PlatinumGames’ acclaimed actioner take a performance hit (to a mostly solid 30fps) but is an otherwise impressive conversion of a terrific game.
Elsewhere, footage of No Man’s Sky on Switch also suggests a moderate visual downgrade. Otherwise, the nuts and bolts of Hello Games’ intergalactic sandbox appear to be in good working order.
Other new video game releases include Let’s Sing ABBA, Josh Journey: Darkness Totems, and Falling Out.
