Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity headlines this week’s lineup of new Nintendo Switch eShop releases.
Some say it’s not been a vintage year for Nintendo. I say play Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Paper Mario: The Origami King and shush. It is true, however, that the Switch’s first-party fall lineup has been a little lacklustre. Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Pikmin 3 Deluxe are both excellent, but neither is the brand new blockbuster we hoped for.
It’s all down to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to surprise us, then. The free demo is fun, Famitsu scored it a very creditable 36/40, and Breath of the Wild fan-service is evident in every pixel. Hopefully, like Fire Emblem Warriors, the game will rise above its musou roots and cap another solid year for the Nintendo’s console.
Also coming to Switch this week is Croteam’s Serious Sam Collection, which collates three games (and two expansions) from the cult first-person shooter franchise, and Rebellion’s promising port of Sniper Elite 4. Other new releases include Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron is Back, which is also available as a free update to existing BB4 owners, Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead, Mars Horizon, and Pure Pool.
