This weekend’s Xbox Free Play Days games include a remastered Need for Speed, the sixth Civilization, and the seventh Tekken.

Microsoft’s strong run of Xbox Free Play Days games continues with another trio of gems available for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members.

The highlight is the modest but elegant remaster of Criterion’s cops and robbers racer, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. This updated version of the 2010 classic comes with improved visuals and performance, plus multi-platform cross-play. It’s a brilliant racer and thankfully free from the micro-transactions that came to plague the series.

The turn-based strategy of Sid Meier’s Civilization VI offers a more sedate serving of excitement, but it’s no less rewarding. The Xbox version gets players started with the Vikings, Poland, Australia, and Macedonia scenario packs.

Finally, it’s Tekken 7. Bandai Namco’s fighter is getting on a bit now, but it still throws a good Burning Fist. The game recently passed seven million copies sold, and with good reason.

Each game is available to download and play until midnight on March 29, 2021. All save progress and achievements earned will transfer over to purchased copies of each game, and all three games are currently on sale on the Xbox digital game store.

We have a favour to ask

Thumbsticks has a couple of main aims. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
