Dark Light

The Resident Evil 2 remake is coming to PC, as well as consoles. What sort of rig will you need to play it?

This is a ground-up reimagining of the original game, built in Resident Evil 7’s RE Engine. Gone are the fixed camera angles and classic “tank” controls; replaced instead with an over-the-shoulder, third-person action perspective first seen (in this series, at least) in Resident Evil 4.

To try and drum up interest – as if any help were needed – Capcom has also released a time-limited, 30-minute, one-shot demo for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Half an hour doesn’t sound like much, but it’s actually a really clever idea.

An extra, added bonus of a demo is that you can see how it runs on your PC before shelling out for the game. To further help with that, here are the Resident Evil 2 Remake system requirements, as supplied by Capcom.

Minimum Resident Evil 2 Remake system requirements

  • OS: WINDOWS® 7, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4460 or AMD FX™-6300 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 760 or AMD Radeon™ R7 260x with 2GB Video RAM
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 26 GB available space
  • Note: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

Recommended Resident Evil 2 Remake system requirements

  • OS: WINDOWS® 7, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-3770 or AMD FX™-9590 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon™ RX 480 with 3GB VRAM
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 26 GB available space
  • Note: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

There are also some whopping great caveats tacked onto the bottom of these system requirements. You’ll need an internet connection for activation, of course, and the recommended requirements, for example, are expected to run at 1080p, 60 FPS.

The caveats on the minimum system requirements… will probably be easier to just quote directly:

“This game is expected to run at 1080p/30 FPS. If you have don’t have enough graphics memory to run the game at your selected texture quality, you must go to Options > Graphics and lower the texture quality or shadow quality, or decrease the resolution. For certain graphics cards (equivalent to GeForce GTX 760), it is recommended that particle lighting quality is set to low.”

Or, in short, “your mileage may vary”.

The Resident Evil 2 Remake releases on January 25th, 2019.
