Super Nintendo World opening date confirmed, new images released

Dark Light

The Super Nintendo World theme park will open in Osaka early next year.

Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan will open its doors to visitors on February 4, 2021.

The open date announcement comes with a selection of new images that provide a detailed overview of the park, plus a closer look at the Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge attraction.

The physical elements of the augmented reality ride look fantastic, including the entrance which recreates Bowser’s Castle. The centrepiece is a large staircase which visitors climb to be greeted by a giant stone statue of Mario’s arch-nemesis.

According to a report on PR Times, the Mario Kart attraction lets visitors compete with Mario and Princess Peach on a course that changes each time you ride. Drivers can also grab weapons obtained from item boxes and throw them at other racers to gain an advantage.

The park as a whole is also gamified. By linking a Power-Up Band to a smartphone app, visitors can hit boxes, grab coins and collect character stamps while they explore. Visitors will compete on park-wide leaderboards.
