UFC 4 performs a double leg takedown on Animal Crossing: New Horizons to take the top spot in the UK video games chart.

That must have hurt, but it’s good to see a brand new game in the UK top ten. UFC 4’s No.1 debut knocks chart stalwart Animal Crossing: New Horizons down one place.

We expect Nintendo can cope with the blow, however, having five games in the top ten. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe holds third place on the podium. Paper Mario: The Origami King and Ring Fit Adventure are at No. 8 and No.10, respectively. And the Nintendo-published Switch edition of Minecraft is at No.6.

Elsewhere, PS4 exclusive Ghost of Tsushima wrangles with the Mongols (and its camera) in fourth place. F1 2020 also shows some staying power, dropping just one position to No. 9.

Further down the chart, the complete edition of Horizon Zero Dawn re-enters at No.34, buoyed, we expect, by  the game’s recent PC release. THQ Nordic’s remake of Destroy All Humans! – which debuted at No.3 two weeks ago – falls 21 places to No.39.

Here’s the full GfK top ten. Don’t forget, the chart only tracks sales of boxed titles and does not include digital purchases.

We have a favour to ask

Thumbsticks has a couple of main aims. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
