It’s a slow week for new video game releases on the PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
Notionally, Hogwarts Legacy is this week’s biggest game, but for obvious reasons – and then some more obvious reasons – we can’t muster any enthusiasm for it.
So let’s give our pick of the week recommendation to the Xbox release of Hyper Shapes. It’s pitched as a ‘frenetic minimalist Boss Rush’, and that about sums it up. We’ve played the game on Switch and found that it pulls off that rare trick of being easy to play but hard to master. The stripped-back art style is also cool and reminds us of the fantastic Bit.Trip series.
Elsewhere, Go! Go! PogoGirl looks like a fun time that marries jaunty pogo platforming with some affectionate Sega callbacks.
