Asymmetric confirm the Nintendo Switch release date for comedy cowboy RPG, West of Loathing.
Mark your diary pardners, West of Loathing will come to Nintendo Switch on May 31, 2018.
The award-winning RPG was originally released on Steam last summer, and has gone on to sell over 150,000 copies on PC. It’s a console exclusive on Switch, and is also set for an iOS release later this year.
West of Loathing is a Western-themed spinoff from the long-running browser game, Kingdom of Loathing. It retains the iconic hand-drawn art style and off-beat humour, and adds in lashings of whiskey and plenty cowpats. Yummy.
Despite its sketchy looks, West of Loathing is a full RPG with three character classes, a sizeable campaign, a multitude of side quests, and – according to the press release – over 50 stylish hats to obtain.
In his talk at this year’s GDC, Asymmetric’s Zack Johnson spoke about packing West of Loathing full of jokes.
“It’s a real quantity over quality approach, but it works because if you have a game with four jokes in it, and one of those is bad, your game is only 75% funny. However, if you have a game with a thousand jokes in it, and two-hundred and fifty of them are bad, then your game is 75% funny.”
