Dark Light

The Xbox Games with Gold lineup for May 2021 features four games that are all worth playing.

We’ve been pretty cool on recent Xbox Games with Gold titles, and, at first glance, May’s lineup looks equally uninspiring. However, a closer look reveals a decent collection of games.

Armello first came to our attention way back in 2016 when we heard about its development at GDC. It’s a compelling digital RPG board game from League of Geeks that shouldn’t be overlooked. And the type of hidden gem we think Microsoft should highlight more often.

Dungeons 3 is a well-made management sim with enjoyable RTS elements. The game’s single-player campaign is extensive, but there’s also fun to be had with its two-player co-op mode.

Over on Xbox 360, Lego Batman: The Video Game is one of many many many many plastic brick-related superhero adventures, but it remains one of the best. And although Tropico 4 is getting old – it was first released in 2011 – it’s a full-featured dictator-sim that gives the city-building genre a cheeky political twist.

So yeah, no big blockbusters, just four deeper cuts from the Xbox library we can recommend. They are available to download for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers between the following dates.
