Xbox Games with Gold

Microsoft has announced the four free games coming to Xbox Games with Gold in October 2019.

The latest Games with Gold lineup features a solid selection of free games but nothing to get truly excited about. Most interesting is the 2015 platformer, Tempo the Badass Elephant. The Sega-published game is noteworthy for being developed by Game Freak, better known as the creators of the Pokémon series. It’s a pretty fun ride.

Tempo is joined on Xbox One by Jason Voorhees, star of Friday the 13th: The Game. Illfonic’s asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror game received lukewarm reviews on its release in 2017 but it quickly sold over two million copies and has a fervent playing community. It’s certainly worth a try.

October’s Xbox 360 games are the disappointing Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, and the Bolt, the official game of an 11-year-old Disney animated film that no one remembers. Both can be played on Xbox One thanks to Backwards Compatibility.

We’ll just say it. October’s lineup of free PlayStation Plus games is better. Here are the availability dates for each game.

Xbox Games With Gold – October 2019

Xbox One

  • Tembo the Badass Elephant – October 1 to 31
  • Friday the 13th: The Game – October 16 to November 15

Xbox 360 and Xbox One

  • Disney Bolt – October 1 to 15
  • Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge – October 16 to 31

Two of September’s Xbox Games with Gold games – Hitman and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 – are available until September 30. We Were Here is available until October 15.

We hate to ask, but...

Thumbsticks has a couple of goals. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough to meet those goals! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
