Microsoft has announced the four games coming to Xbox Games with Gold in September 2020.

Earlier this week, Sony announced that PUBG and Street Fighter V are coming to PS Plus in September. Now, that’s a killer lineup of free PS4 games. Next month’s roster of Xbox Games with Gold freebies isn’t quite as impressive. It’s not bad. It’s just a bit, you know, meh.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with Tom Clancy’s The Division, but Ubisoft’s online shooter is showing it’s age somewhat in the face of more recent highlights of the genre. Likewise, 2014’s The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a fine comedy-adventure, but it hardly feels essential in 2020.

Also playable on Xbox One via Back Compat are the colourful Xbox 360 puzzle adventure, De Blob 2, and original Xbox third-person shooter parody, Armed and Dangerous. Again, they decent enough games, but we’re hardly pinching our cheeks with giddy delight.

It’s almost like Microsoft would rather we subscribed to Xbox Game Pass.

The latest batch of Games with Gold titles will be available to download and keep for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members from the following dates.

Xbox Games With Gold – September 2020

Xbox One

  • Tom Clancy’s The Division – September 1 – 30
  • The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 – September 16 to October 15

Xbox 360 and Xbox One

  • de Blob 2 – September 1 to 15
  • Armed and Dangerous – September 16 to 30

Of last month’s games, Portal Knights remains available to download until the end of the month and Override: Mech City Brawl is free until September 15.
