Dark Light

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Age of Empires IV, and Riders Republic headline this week’s lineup of new Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One releases.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is our pick from this week’s crop of new Xbox games. From what we’ve seen, Eidos Montreal’s action-adventure escapes the shadow of its movie predecessor with a familiar but distinctive take on Star-Lord and chums. It might be a more modest game by design, but that should help it escape the plight of 2020’s The Avengers.

A console exclusive also marches on to Xbox this week in the shape of the real-time strategy game Age of Empires IV. Eight medieval civilisations are available at launch – English, Chinese, Mongols, Delhi Sultanate, French, Abbassid Dynasty, Holy Roman Empire, and the Rus – with the promise of more to come.

The week’s other big release is Ubisoft’s extreme sports jamboree Riders Republic. As fans of Steep, we’re more excited by this online open-world game than most other titles from the troubled publishing giant.

Other Xbox games include NASCAR 21: Ignition, Backbone, and the remaster of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. Here’s the complete list of new releases. We’ll update this page throughout the week with any late additions.
