R-Type Final 2 and Second Extinction are among next week’s new Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S releases.

The wonderfully monikered R-Type Final 2 is one of the week’s Xbox release highlights. Granzella’s game – which raised over $1 million on Kickstarter – adds a host of new features and some spectacular visuals to the long-running shmup series. Fans can also look forward to tribute stages based on previous R-Type titles.

Another retro-themed game is WarDogs: Red’s Return from Mito Games. It’s a Streets of Rage-inspired beat ’em up starring a humanoid dog. Sounds ruff.

Other new Xbox releases include the thought-provoking narrative game Before I Forget, and three-player dinosaur co-op shooter, Second Extinction.

Finally, the boring game name of the week awards goes to Protocol. To quote the press release: “You are a flippant soldier who signs up for the Protocol program implementation.” Consider us, erm, intrigued.

Here’s the full lineup of new Xbox releases for the week ahead. We’ll update this post with any last-minute additions as they are confirmed.
