Viz Media confirm that the English-language edition of ‘Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom from Satoru Iwata’ will be released this April.
The Iwata Asks series of interviews is notable for its insightful examination of Nintendo’s notoriously secretive development process.
Over nine years, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata – who died in 2015 – spoke at length to the creators of games including Wii Sports, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Splatoon, and Super Mario Galaxy.
Conducted with wry humour, the refreshingly candid and informative conversations cover the highlights of the Wii, DS, Wii U, and 3DS eras. They are essential reading for any game developer or Nintendo fan.
An edited compilation of Iwata’s interviews was first published in Japan in 2019, with an English-language translation announced last summer. Viz Media has now confirmed this edition will be released on April 13, 2021. The book also includes reflections from two of Iwata’s long-time collaborators: Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Earthbound creator, Shigesato Itoi.
