Sega is bringing its Mega Drive Collection to consoles and PC, after first debuting last gen for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The announcement was made last night, via what appears to have been an accidental tweet:

It was deleted shortly after, but is up now. Perhaps it was blurted out slightly too soon?

It was a good collection as well: Sonic the Hedgehog (of course), Ecco the Dolphin, Shining Force, Phantasy Star 2, Golden Axe – there were fifty games in total.

It’s a pretty obvious manoeuvre, given that, at the moment, there is a real thirst for retro experiences: the SNES Mini, the recent rush of remasters from Shadow of the Colossus, to Okami HD, and both Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2.

Speaking of which, there is no mention of the Sega Mega Drive Collection for Nintendo’s console. The collection is scheduled to be released on the 29th May; perhaps there will be word on a Switch version soon after.
