Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Pokémon Sword and Shield headline a busy week of new video game releases for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Two heavyweight franchises go head to head on console this week. It doesn’t get much bigger than Star Wars and Pokémon.

A lot is riding on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for Electronic Arts. The publisher has a chequered history with the franchise, but we expect Respawn have the chops to give Star Wars fans the game they have been waiting for.

Pokémon fans are also notoriously hard to please and have made no secret of their concerns for Sword and Shield. We have a feeling most players will be happy enough with the finished product, which freshens things up just enough while keeping the beloved formula intact.

Other new releases include Square Enix’s remake of Romancing SaGa 3, Switch-exclusive puzzler The Touryst, and two new PSVR games: Doctor Who: The Edge of Time and Golem.

We have a favour to ask

Thumbsticks has a couple of main aims. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
