The Callisto Protocol and Marvel’s Midnight Suns headline this week’s lineup of new video games for the PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
The Callisto Protocol is the long-awaited sci-fi survival horror game from Striking Distance and director Glen Schofield, co-creator of Dead Space. The game’s roots are clear to see – perhaps too clear – but it certainly looks the part and oozes atmosphere. It will be fascinating to see how the game stacks up against EA’s own Dead Space remake, which is due in January.
This week’s other big release is Marvel’s Midnight Suns from XCOM developer Firaxis. Iron Man, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Wolverine, and Spider-Man are among the game’s playable heroes.
Our expectations for Need for Speed Unbound are understandably low, but a top-gear arcade racer is always welcome. Hopefully, this PS5 and Xbox Series X|S exclusive will break the series out of its rut.
Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch owners also have lots to enjoy. Inscryption is the acclaimed roguelike deck-building game from Daniel Mullins. (You can read more about the making of this subversive and inventive game here.)
Front Mission 1st: Remake gives the much-loved tactical RPG a modern makeover, and the long-awaited free golf update comes to the excellent Nintendo Switch Sports.
