The quality of video game merchandise is often hit and miss, but this new Pac-Man sculpture from Bandai Namco is truly glorious.
According to Bandai Namco’s slightly enthusiastic press release, “one of the most iconic video game characters in history meets high-art” in a new limited edition sculpture from renowned artist, Richard Orlinski.
The Pac-Man x Orlinski Official Sculpture is available to pre-order now from the Bandai Namco store and comes in two colours: traditional yellow and stylish black. It’s not cheap (£125 in the UK) but it really is rather beautiful, and a cut above most other video game statuettes.
The 7 inch tall sculpture is casts everyone’s favourite pill-popper in premium-quality resin with a glossy finish. The distinctive polygonal look echoes Orlinski’s previous work, particularly his Wild Kong range.
If you do pre-order, you’re in for a long wait as the figurine is not due for release until June 2020. To tide you over, allow us to recommend the Pac-Man amiibo as a cheaper substitute. It might not be art, but it’s quite possibly the most life-affirming video game product ever made.
In other video game merchandise news, Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has launched their own online store.
