Playground Games is looking for a senior scriptwriter to work on its upcoming open world action RPG.

A new job advertisement posted on the Playground Games website – and listed on recruitment website Indeed – indicates that the Warwickshire-based studio is continuing to staff up for its as-yet unannounced role-playing game.

The Senior Scriptwriter position is described as joining the project in the early stages of development, and is tasked with working on the game’s story, setting and characters:

“As part of the writing team you’ll work closely with the Narrative Director to develop the game’s story and script from conception through to completion. You’ll be a strong collaborator with a proven track record of writing great dialogue, memorable characters, and compelling storylines for video games.”

It has been rumoured for some time that the studio – which is best known for the Forza Horizon racing franchise – is working on a continuation of Lionhead’s acclaimed Fable RPG series.

The role description also states that the successful applicant will have a “flair for writing characterful, witty dialogue,” which certainly fits with the tongue-in-cheek tone of the series to date.

The mainline Fable series has been dormant since 2010’s Fable III. Lionhead Studios followed this with two spin-off titles – Fable Heroes and Fable: The Journey – and was working on a multiplayer sequel titled Fable Legends. Production ended when the studio was closed by Microsoft in 2016. Some former Lionhead employees regrouped as Flaming Fowl Studios, releasing digital card-game Fable Fortune for PC and Xbox One in 2018.

We hope to hear more about Playground’s project at Microsoft’s Xbox E3 2019 press conference in June.
