Sony reveals the free video games available to PlayStation Plus subscribers in August 2021.

After a few blockbuster months, August’s lineup of free PlayStation Plus games comes as a slight disappointment.

The headline act is Hunter’s Arena: Legends from Mantisco. Pitched as a blend of RPG, MOBA and battle royale, the game is certainly ambitious. It’s been out on PC for a few weeks and seems reasonably well-liked, although a common cause of complaint is a lack of players. That’s something the game’s console debut on PS Plus should hopefully address.

One game we can guarantee to have a player base is the Popcap/Electronic Arts shooter, Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville. The game doesn’t surpass its excellent predecessor, but it’s fast-paced, colourful, and comical. Along with Nintendo’s Splatoon series, it’s also proof that shooters don’t have to be gloomy war simulators or sci-fi fantasies to be enjoyable.

Finally, Tennis World Tour 2 is probably the best serious tennis sim on the market. It’s not outstanding, but it has just enough in its locker to satisfy fans of the sport.

All three titles will be available to download for PlayStation Plus members from August 3, 2021.
