Red Dead Redemption 2 shoots to the top of the UK video games chart

Dark Light

The rootin’ tootin’ chartin’ Red Dead Redemption 2 enters at number one in the UK video games chart.

Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 takes the top spot in the GFK Chart Track software chart, and is the second fastest-selling game of the year, behind EA’s FIFA 19. It has also sold fewer retail copies in its first week than the studio’s last game, Grand Theft Auto V, which was released in 2013.

However, that’s not to say the game hasn’t performed well. According to a report from UKIE, the PlayStation 4 version took 68% share of sales, and is the biggest debut on the platform for a non-FIFA title.

We should also not forget that Rockstar’s games have an incredibly long tail. The aforementioned GTA V, for example, is still sitting pretty at No. 13 in this week’s chart. And with Red Dead Redemption 2 released on two-discs – and requiring a massive install – many players may have preferred to bite the bullet and go digital.

Elsewhere in the top ten, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and FIFA 19 both fall one place each, to second and third respectively. Last week’s No.8, Soulcalibur VI, falls to No.25.

Further down the chart, Paw Patrol: On a Roll! debuts at No.17, and Nickelodeon Kart Racers enters at No.21. My Hero One’s Justice, and Just Dance 2019 complete last week’s new entries at No.24 and No.25.

The Bethesda-published Prey also surges back into the chart at No.20, presumably due to various retail promotions.
