Nintendo Switch exclusive Super Mario Maker 2 enters the UK video game chart at No.1.

Super Mario Maker 2 has shot straight to the top of the UKIE GfK video game chart in its first week, knocking last week’s No.1, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, down to second place.

Promotion around the game – plus some tempting console bundles – has given Switch software a boost all round. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe moves up from No.8 to No.5, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate squeaks back into the top ten, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild leaps 11 places to No.11.

The arrival of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night on Nintendo’s console also propels the game into the upper reaches of the chart, despite serious concerns over the quality of the port.

This week’s new entries include an impressive performance for Sega’s detective adventure, Judgment, which debuts at No.4. There’s also a podium placement for Codemasters’ F1 2019. Frogware’s The Sinking City enters the chart at No.12
