Dark Light

This week’s Xbox Free Play Days titles include games about slaughter, survival, and simians.

There’s an excellent lineup of freebies available to Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers this weekend.

First up is Ubisoft’s stylish ‘Art of Battle’ combat game, For Honor. The game is often overlooked when discussing Ubisoft’s library of service games. However, four years after release, For Honor retains a strong player-base and has received multiple expansions and content updates. There’s a learning curve, but the pay off is worth it.

Next up is The Survivalists, Team 17’s survival sandbox spin-off from The Escapists. It’s a hugely fun co-op experience built around crafting, building, hunting, combat, and good-natured japes. If you pine for Survival Kids or Lost in Blue, this is a quirky and enjoyable game to try.

Finally, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is a remake of the Nintendo Wii hit from 2006. It’s not truly excellent, admittedly, but there’s lots to enjoy across its 100 single-player stages and 10 multiplayer mini-games. It’s one to sample, but we recommend saving your pennies for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania later this year.

All save progress and achievements carry over to purchased copies of each game, and there are some decent discounts on offer to tempt you. Each game is free to play until midnight on Sunday.
