Dark Light

Clear some space on the hard drive. Here’s news of three (pretty good) video games that are free to play on Xbox One this weekend.

A pleasingly varied collection of games make up this week’s crop of Xbox One Free Play Days titles. Top-billed is Volition’s madcap exercise in open-world mayhem, Saints Row IV: Re-Elected. The game is enjoyable wall-to-wall chaos, and although its humour has aged considerably, you do get to play as POTUS. What could possibly go wrong?

Next up is The Game Kitchen’s hack ’n slash action platformer, Blasphemous. The game borrows liberally from the likes of Dark Souls, Metroid and Castlevania but it carves out its own distinct and unsettling identity. It’s an often grotesque game with striking pixel art graphics and some memorably icky boss battles.

Bringing up the rear is Assetto Corsa Competizione, the official game of the Blancpain GT Series. As far as we can tell, the game didn’t receive a massive amount of attention on release, but it’s highly regarded by its players and notable for its incredible attention to detail. If you prefer the Forza Motorsport series over Forza Horizon, it’s definitely one to check out.

All three games are free to download and play for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members until midnight on October 11. Any earned achievements, Gamerscore, and save progress can be carried over to purchased copies. Here are details of some limited-time discounts for each game.
