The Xbox Games with Gold lineup for April 2021 is fine but uninspiring.

We don’t like being mean to games without good reason at Thumbsticks, but it’s hard to get terribly excited about April’s Xbox Games with Gold lineup. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with any of the four titles, but with Game Pass receiving countless top-tier releases, it’s evident where Microsoft’s priorities lie.

Dark Void is probably the highlight. This Capcom-published jetpack adventure was a bit of a flop when it was released for the Xbox 360 in 2010, but it has an easy-going charm and a stylish retro-future aesthetic. It also includes a fantastic score from Battlestar Galactica and Outlander composer Bear McCreary.

The other Games with Gold for April are Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, Truck Racing Championship, and run-and-gun actioner, Hard Corps: Uprising.

The four titles will be available to download for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers between the following dates.

We hate to ask, but...

Thumbsticks has a couple of goals. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough to meet those goals! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
