The upcoming lineup of Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One releases features a battle between two footballing giants.
First on the field is FIFA 22, the latest entry in EA Sports’ long-running football franchise. Improvements are promised on the pitch – HyperMotion technology is this year’s buzzword – and you can expect a reliably energetic simulation of the sport. A cheeky next-gen upgrade, the loss of some Italian teams, and the ever attendant FUT niggles take the shine off the game.
So maybe eFootball 2022 is a better option? PES was often considered the franchise of choice for football purists, but with that name consigned to history, Konami’s take on the sport is now fully transformed into a free-to-play extravaganza. eFootball’s microtransaction add-ons and multiple in-game currencies make my hamstrings twinge, but if the gameplay is up to scratch, it could be worth a trial.
Other new releases include time loop strategy shooter Lemnis Gate and the delayed dispatch of Toy Soldiers, the HD update of the 2010 XBLA classic.
